Colonel Return Jonathan Meigs Day Book Number 2Colonel Return Jonathan Meigs Day Book Number 2. James L. Douthat. 1993. Softcover, 8.5 x 11, as new, Illus., Index, 120 pp. Notations found in an original Day Book kept by Meigs for the years 1801-1807. These records are the beginnings of the United States' deals with the Cherokee in peace-time. There is correspondence, some of which are to him and some from him, and expenses and payments, including a description. This 'Day Book' is not part of the public records, even though some of the letters are. Making these records available for the first time, will enable researchers into the history of lower east Tennessee to gain a better appreciation for the life and times of those who have gone before us. The author has added some of the material in the addendum as a guide to help clarify some of the points in the manuscript that might need some illumination. [TN-0851-M]
