SALINAN INDIANS OF CALIFORNIA AND THEIR NEIGHBORSSALINAN INDIANS OF CALIFORNIA AND THEIR NEIGHBORS. By Betty War Brusa. 1975, paper, Biblio., Index, 95 pp.
The Salinan Indians were one of the happy, contented groups of California natives who have been swept into oblivian by the white civilization. Since they had no written language, it is very difficult to learn exact details about their culture. The author has researched any source available in order to reconstruct their culture. One of her final conclusions was that the Salinian Indians and most of their neighbors were peaceful peoples in harmony with nature in a way we all need to learn. A map shows a division of territory, villages, and trail placements as they were before the white man came. One of the many interesting features on the map of this book is Tulare Lake which has long since dried up. PA-12 |
