1890 Civil War Veterans Census: Tennessee1890 Civil War Veterans Census: Tennessee. Byron Sistler and Barbara Sistler. Paperback, (1978), reprinted 2014, 6 in. x 9 in., Index, 368 pp.
At the time of the 1890 U.S. Census, the Census Office undertook an enumeration of all veterans who had served in the Union forces during the civil War. This book lists in alphabetical order the names of about 26,000 Tennessee men who served in some branch of service during the Civil War. While, as noted above, the intent was to cover only Union servicemen, the authors discovered that approximately 10% of those included were Confederates. Several hundred more, not so identified, were probably Confederates, judging from the unit numbers. The information contained includes the names of veterans and their widows, rank & unit served with, dates of service, current PO address, and any disability incurred in the war. J-SA1334 |
