This CD ROM contains four books, three of which have recorded many of Massachusetts' vital records in the towns of Athol, Bellingham, and Tisbury, during the period prior to 1850. The book, History of the Early Settlement of Newton, County of Middlesex, Massachusetts, From 1639 to 1800, with a Genealogical Register of its Inhabitants, Prior to 1800 is also included, and provides substantial reference material for early Newton, Massachusetts. There are approximately 35,000 name listings in these four publications. This CD is an excellent source, filled with names and information on early Massachusetts's residents. The books are graphic images of the original publications, and can be read as you would any book. Each book contains an index, allowing you to do quick look-ups, and pages may be printed. Although the Newton, Massachusetts book does not have an every-name index, the Genealogical Register, and most lists, are in alphabetical order, providing easy reference. All of this is accomplished using Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is provided FREE on the CD. Vital Records of Athol Massachusetts to the end of year 1849. Franklin P. Rice. Originally published 1910, alphabetical listing, 228 pp. This book is an alphabetical listing of over 3,500 births, 1,138 marriages (naming 2,276 individuals) and 1,470 deaths, for a total of 7,275 listings. Most of the marriage records show the man's full name and women's full (maiden) name. Some of the records show the people's place of residence, and some of the death records show cause of death and "Age at the time of death" so a birth year could be calculated. Originally published 1904, alphabetical listing, 222 pp. This book is an alphabetical listing of approximately 2,600 births, 2,400 marriages ( naming 4,800 individuals.) and 1,700 deaths. Most of the marriage records show the man's full name and women's full (maiden) name . Some of the records show the people's place of residence. Originally published 1854, alphabetical listings, 556 pp. The author writes: "The object of this humble effort is to seek and save the earliest and most important historical facts of the Town, especially those relating to its first settlement, in 1639, - the organization of its first church, in 1664, -its separation from Cambridge, and organization as an independent Town, in 1679, - the establishment of its first public school, about 1700, - and all that could be discovered relating to the pioneers of the settlement, with some account of the most interesting transactions of their descendants. To which is added, a GENEALOGICAL REGISTER, containing the names of all persons, as far as known, who were inhabitants of the place prior to the year 1800, with such brief facts concerning them as could be gleaned from the Town and County records, and elsewhere. There are approximately 10,000 names in the book. A PLAN OF THE TOWN is also added, showing the approximate location of the homesteads of the early settlers, the dwelling houses they built, and the roads they laid open, from 1639 to 1700, and onward to 1750. Also included are records, lists, histories of all kinds. The first settlers and where they were from, time of death, and age at time of death; boundaries; land records; highways; tax lists, including values; list of soldiers of the Revolution; church records, including lists of ministers, charter members, etc., and of course, all of the genealogical records and information.
