He was the son of Nicholas de Bures of Magna Bures and probably a near relative of Nicolas de Bures of Foxherd Manor; Essex; 1286. Descendants and relatives listed lived in Suffolk; Essex; and elsewhere. The surname is spelled de Bures; Bures; Burre; and Burr.
