Abstracts of the Probate Records of Strafford County, New Hampshire 1771-1799.By Helen F. Evans. 1983. Hardbound, black cloth, gold lettering on spine, mint condition, 5.5x 8.5, indexed, 237 pp. According to the author, Strafford Co., NH, now consists of the towns of Barrington, Dover, Durham, Farmington, Lee, Madbury, Middleton, Milton, New Durham, Rochester, Rollingsford, Somersworth and Strafford. However, many political boundry changes have taken place since the creation of Strafford Co. in 1771, and the towns of Alton, Barnstead, Gilford, Gilmanton, Meredith, New Hampton, Sanbornton, Brookfield, Chatham, Conway, Eaton, Effingham, Freedom Moultonborough, Sandwich, Tamworth, Tuftonborough, Ossipee, Wakefield, and Wolfeborough were later included within the boundaries of these other counties. Thus, the abstracted records included in this work contain many from communities that are now part of other jurisdictions. Each item abstracted contains as much information as will be helpful to researchers, and particularly, adds such new information as may appear in each successive document. There is always an identification of the document, such as administration, will, dower, etc. Dates are given plus the names, residences, and occupations of persons involved in the transaction. This book is an excellent resource for anyone researching New Hampshire ancestors! [E300-H]
