Marylanders to Kentucky 1775-1825MARYLANDERS TO KENTUCKY 1775-1825. Henry C. Peden, Jr. Softcover, (1991), repr. 2001, New, Index, 208 pp.
The Publisher’s Description: Compiled from pensions, land records, newspapers, marriage records, etc. Approx. 900 surnames covered. Marylanders played an important role in the settlements of Kentucky during its first 50 years from 1775 to 1825. No historical compilation can be expected to locate and list every one of the thousands of these early settlers who moved west to Kentucky from Maryland, but this book has been compiled with the purposes in mind of aiding those genealogists who are searching for Kentuckians of Maryland descent. In addition persons with the same surname have been grouped together, as an indication of possible relationship. The reader is cautioned that this is not meant to imply that they were all necessarily related to one another. In this compendium of Kentuckians with Maryland roots, a variety of primary and secondary sources has been used. Revolutionary War pension abstracts, land records, marriage records, cemetery records, newspaper advertisements, queries from descendants, and genealogical journals were the major sources of information. Other sources are cited within the text, with occasional references to additional material available on specific families. |
