This CD-ROM is a unique and important historical document useful for both the genealogist and the historian. This record of voter registration is the first statewide listing showing the names of newly freed slaves in Texas. The original voters' registers are arranged by county and provide the following information: vote�s name, date of registration, voting precinct, number of years of residence In the precinct, county and state, and the state or country of birth. Additional information regarding when, where, and how a person was naturalized is provided for foreign-born individuals. In more than a few counties, however, some or all of this Information was omitted. Within each county the names are entered in chronological order of registration. This index was created to provide easy access to this vital genealogical information.
This CD-ROM uses the powerful Adobe Acrobat reader (for Windows and Macintosh, provided free on the CD; the corresponding viewer for other operating systems, can be downloaded free of charge from www.Adobe.com). The format preserves the look of the original page and allows the user to search the text for names of people and places. When you run a search, the hits are highlighted on each page for easy Identification. In addition, numerous bookmarks have been added which make it easy to move through the book.
